Metropolitan Fire Brigade

Metropolitan Fire Brigade Channel Plan & TGID's.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade provides Fire, Rescue and EMR response within the Metropolitan Fire District (MFD).

The remainder of Victoria's fire and rescue response is primarily provided the Country Fire Authority (CFA), although areas such as state parks and forrests may see a response by the Department of Sustainabilty & Environment which maintains a fire response capabilty in selected areas.

The MFB make use of the Metropolitan Mobile Radio (MMR) Network for it's communication needs. At present Motorola Astro XTL 5000 Model W3, Astro XTL 5000 Model 5 and Astro XTS 5000 R Model III radios are used. They make use of both trunking and non-trunking P25 protocols in their system. Also found in MFB appliances, support vehciles and command assests are Motorola MCS2000 for use on the Country Fire Authority radio network, although as the CFA is currently changing to new TAIT radios this may change in the future.

All mobile (XTL Series) radios are programmed with the inclusion of a small number of encrypted TGID's in addition to the usual un-encrypted TGID's. None of the general issue safety yellow portables carry the encrypted TGID's however the MFB maintain a small number of black portables with the encryption module and TGID's installed.

The MFB also have access to two trailer mounted portable repeaters to use on taskforces or protracted incidents where they need to increase their trunking P25 capabilties or use of their non-trunking P25 channels is not ideal to use. These trailers permit a short term extension of the MMR Network in an area not usually serviced by the network.

The MFD is currently made up of 5 Districts over 2 Regions, with each District having it's own channel (TGID) for operations. It is common practise for several of those channels to be 'patched' with another.
